Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Live in Concert at RYMUN 2016

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (RFAK‎) is a Pakistani vocalist, essentially of Qawwali, a spiritual music of the Muslim Sufis. He is the nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, furthermore the grandson of Qawwali artist Fateh Ali Khan. Other than Qawwali, he also performs ghazals and other light music. He is famous as a Bollywood and Lollywood playback singer.

Rahat’s uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan picked him for his training in the traditions of Qawwali music. Rahat started singing with his uncle and father when he was three years old. In the age of seven he started formal training with his uncle and he gave his first presentation in public at the death anniversary of his grandfather when he was nine years old. At the age of 15, he was made a basic part of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s famous qawwali group. He visited the United Kingdom with his uncle in 1985, and performed solo songs other than singing with the Qawwali group.

At a show in Birmingham on 27 July 1985, he sang a solo ghazal, Mukh Tera Sohneya Sharab Nalon Changa Ae. At a show at the Harrow Leisure Centre in 1985, he sang a solo song, Gin Taare Lang Gaiyaan Rattaan. He sang Bollywood playback in the 90s and appeared as a playback vocalist in Bollywood with the movie Paap (2003), featuring the hit song, Mann Ki Lagan.

His latest works comprise of Pakistani nationalistic songs, for example, Dharti Dharti and Hum Pakistan, and songs from Bollywood movies. He has given his performances in Pakistan, India, UK and other countries. In April 2012 Rahat visited the United Kingdom, performing at Wembley Arena and the Manchester Arena, playing to combined viewers of more than 20,000 individuals.

Rahat turned into the first Pakistani to be welcomed at 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, to perform at its show. He performed Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s most unforgettable qawwali “Tumhe Dillagi…” and “Mast Qalandar…“, he also sang “Aao Parhao – Jo Seekha hai woh sab ko seekhao” (Come Teach – Teach all that you have learnt). Pakistan Day was commended surprisingly at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on 23 March 2016. At the event a show titled “Sufi Night: Music of Peace” was arranged. The only performer at the show was Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Diplomats of 140 nations were present in the show.

After giving his live performances in various concerts, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform at RYMUN 2016 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
